The Glen Furr Insurance Agency was started in 1952 by Glen McCarty Furr.  He actually "inherited" an initial customer base from his uncle, William Furr, whom he had been helping to run an insurance agency.  Through his hard work, running his own farm besides, and good word-of-mouth referrals, the business had expanded to the point that in 1964 his daughter Ruthanne Furr joined him as a partner.  By 1974 the business had grown to where his son, Glen M. Furr, was added as another partner.  In 1982 Glen McCarty decided to retire from the business leaving his position to his eldest son, Mack Furr.  This arrangement continued until May of 1998 when a fourth generation Furr, Glen L., the son of Glen M., was hired in an agent capacity.  The start of 2003 brought Glen McCarty's daughter, Phyllis Kirby, as a customer service representative after she retired from a teaching career.  In May of 2004, Mack retired from the business and Glen L. was made a partner, which is the arrangement that remains to this day.
